LONESTAR
Lonestar is an American country music group consisting of Cody Collins (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Michael Britt (lead guitar, background vocals), Keech Rainwater (drums), Dean Sams (keyboards, melodica, background vocals), and Michael Hill (Bass Guitar). Collins, who had formerly been in another country group called McAlyster, replaced former lead vocalist Richie McDonald, who left in November 2007 for a solo career. John Rich was also the group's bass guitarist and second lead vocalist until 1998, when he was fired from the group. He left for a solo career, before joining Big Kenny in the duo Big & Rich in 2003. Since Rich's departure, Lonestar has not had an official bass guitarist.
Lonestar first charted in late 1995 with the single "Tequila Talkin'," the first of twenty-seven singles on the country charts. Nine of the band's singles have reached Number One on this chart. Their biggest hit was 1999's "Amazed", a crossover hit that reached Number One on both the country charts and the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the first single to do so since Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's "Islands in the Stream" in 1983. The group has also recorded eight studio albums and a Greatest Hits compilation. Three of their albums have been certified gold, while three more have been certified platinum or higher.

Although the members of Lonestar on the cover of COMING HOME look like average suburban jeans-and-t-shirt guys, the band's sound remains firmly rooted in country. Sure, the group does lean towards a pop/rock sound at times, but the plaintive vocals of Richie McDonald and occasional fiddle and pedal-steel lines keep things in rural territory. Whether McDonald is singing about women, beer, or home, his everyday charm carries this enjoyable 2005 album.

In the realm of country music, self-contained groups have never been the most common denizens of the charts, the format being much more sympathetic to solo artists and duos. However, like Alabama, Sawyer Brown, and a handful others, Lonestar has persevered to become one of the most successful acts on the country scene. This disc, a collection of their most popular songs, stands as a monument to that success. It's filled to the brim with tightly arranged, expertly performed tunes that mix country, pop, and rock while maintaining just the right amount of twang. Lonestar's not afraid of a little bar-room boogie, as on "You Walked In," or a bit of post-Eagles country pop ("Everything's Changed"). However, they're also proficient in the power-ballad area, as exemplified on picture-perfect radio bait like "Amazed," "I'm Already There" (which in another era could have been an Air Supply hit), and the previously unreleased, spiritually oriented "I Pray."
